This year's contest is cancelled due to a lack of entries. High school teachers, if you have any suggestions for a different type of contest that might be more appealing to you and your students, please email me at EricShade@MissouriState@edu.
Held annually in conjunction with the Pummill Math Relays, and sponsored by the Missouri State University student chapter of the ACM.
This year we will hold a Robocode contest (like last year), where robots are submitted a week in advance and the winners are determined live on the day of the contest. The advantages are that students can do the work ahead of time, can still compete in the math events, and then can see the results live as the robots battle each other.
The deadline is midnight on Wednesday, April 15.
We will be using Robocode 1.7.0.2, which you can download from the main Robocode site at Robocode Central. For additional information see Robo Home - the Robo Wiki. We will use a 1.6.x version of the Java Runtime Environment.
To submit your robot, create a .jar file using the "package robot for upload" option, and make sure to include the source code. Email the .jar file as an attachment to Myles Loffler before the deadline, along with the team members' names, the supervising teacher's name, and school. The last version of a robot submitted by a team before the deadline will be the one used in the competition.
A team consists of at most two students from the same high school. No student can be a member of more than one team. Your team must work independently. You can enter only one robot per team. You can modify/extend any of the sample robots provided with the Robocode 1.7.0.2 distribution, but you may not use code from any other robots, including those available on the web.
On the day of the contest we will have a live tournament to determine the winner. The exact format will depend on the number of entries, but we will make sure it's fair. See the Pummill Relays event schedule for the exact time.
