Admission and Program Requirements

Major in computer science

Here are the steps and requirements you need to complete for the computer science major.

Your first steps: Declare your major

There are no formal admission requirements for the computer science major. Just be admitted to Missouri State and declare computer science as your major.
  1. Become a Bear: Apply to Missouri State. (If you’re not already a current student.)
  2. Before completing 60 credit hours, contact the Academic Advising and Transfer Center to declare or change your major to computer science.

After you declare: Complete the program requirements

Complete these requirements to earn a bachelor's degree in computer science.

Completing your minor

The computer science major also requires you to pick a minor (or have a second major). A minor is a secondary area of study that supports your major.

If you pursue the computer science option of the CS major, you'll automatically complete the requirements for a minor in math.

We recommended that you do not complete your general education courses first. Instead, take a mixture of general education and major-required courses. Meet with your advisor often to make sure you stay on track to graduate.
